I've always thought Cotti was one of the most under-rated and unknown producers out there given his long history with the Dubstep community and the evolution of it. The owner of Sumting New Records has been producing dubstep in the motherland of London since 2004 but only has 7,350 Soundcloud followers. He's worked on collaborations with dubstep legends Coki and Skream, as well as Kromestar, Dub Pistols, P Money, and Skepta. He even had a track titled "The Legacy" featured on one of dubstep's most famous releases, Rusko and Caspa's "Fabric Live 27" CD. His US breakthrough was my personal favorite Cotti release, "The Resurrection" EP signed to 12th Planet's LA based SMOG Records in 2014. He has remained relevant by continuously releasing music on his STN label that always seems to keep his signature style and push barriers of genre constraint at the same time. Today, I am posting his "Back to My Roots" EP that was released on Nov. 25th. This EP cannot be streamed on Soundcloud but instead on Bandcamp, where you can purchase it for $4.54 (or £3).
In this 4 track EP, Cotti showcases his signature wonky, well mastered synths that his fans know him for but effortlessly mixes and pays homage to his Reggae/Jamaican Dubstep roots in "Elusive", "Stay Calm", and "Cool Down". This is great, vibey release from Cotti- I support it! And you should take some time to check it out. Also, if you don't already, definitely follow him on Soundcloud. He always has new and good music coming out.
This used to be personal blog dedicated to promoting artists, events, and music. This is still a personal blog that will discuss music, artists, and events but will now just be for personal enjoyment. I will no longer be advertising this blog as a promotional resource. The content that I post about will be because I enjoy it and need an outlet to mostly keep myself updated, organized, and expressed. I do not have background in sound design or song construction so I am not properly "qualified" to critique music. I'm more than open to learning though so if anyone would like to reach out and be a resource of knowledge, feel free. Otherwise, I'll just be babbling about why a certain track sounds good to me.
This blog will no longer be limited to JUST bass music. If I enjoy something, I'll post about it. If you enjoy it too, cool! I hope I can offer something new to anyone who reads this and even if I can't, hopefully we can connect through the common enjoyment of music. :)
